Washington, Feb 16 (EFE) .- Following the resignation of Andrew Puzder to opt for the job, US President Donald Trump has today nominated Cuban-American lawyer Alexander Acosta to head the Department of Labor.

Trump made the announcement of the nomination of Acosta, the son of Cuban immigrants, former member of the National Labor Relations Board, and who, if confirmed by the Senate, will be the first Hispanic in the president's cabinet.

Acosta was not present at the event, but Trump said he had talked to him, that he would be a "great Secretary of Labor" and that he wanted "the best."

In addition, the president took the opportunity to remember that today the Senate confirmed Mick Mulvaney as the new director of the Office of Budget of the White House.

Born in Miami, Florida, Alexander Acosta holds a bachelor's degree in law and economics from Harvard University.

Trump's Labor Secretary candidate was a member of the National Labor Relations Board, served as an attorney in the Civil Rights Division during the Government of former President George W. Bush, and more recently was dean of the Law School of the International University of Florida.

WASHINGTON — President Trump moved quickly on Thursday to replace his first choice for labor secretary, choosing R. Alexander Acosta, a Florida law school dean and former assistant attorney general for civil rights. Mr. Acosta would be the only Hispanic in Mr. Trump’s cabinet.

Andrew F. Puzder, a lawyer and fast-food exective, withdrew from consideration for the cabinet post on Wednesday in the face of opposition from Democrats, union groups and liberals as well as some Republicans over his business record and character questions.

In Mr. Acosta, Mr. Trump chose a nominee with deep experience in labor relations, law and education. He addressed concerns about the lack of diversity in his administration. And he tapped someone whose chances of being confirmed appear to be relatively high, because Mr. Acosta has made it through the process three times before for different roles.

A Miami native, Mr. Acosta earned undergraduate and law degrees from Harvard University and was a clerk for Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr. when he was still an appeals court judge. Mr. Acosta’s most relevant experience to the job of labor secretary was his time as a member of the National Labor Relations Board from 2002 to 2003 during the administration of former President George. W. Bush. When his tenure there ended, Mr. Acosta was tapped by Mr. Bush to head the Justice Department’s civil rights division.

2. An Opus Dei money launderer. Perfect for the Trump regime.

This guy has for years chaired the Miami-based U.S. Century Bank, a suspected drug money laundry. It emerged out of nowhere in 2002 and before long was known locally as "the little bank that could" - which in Miami usually means someone's laundering lots of yeyo loot.

He served in the Bush Justice Dept. for a few years, probably on Jeb's advice (and the latter's ties of the drug racket - Alberto Duque, etc. - have been well documented).

He's also tied to the fatuously-named 'Ethics and Public Policy Center' - an Opus Dei-controlled shill shop. Should fit right in with a criminal enterprise like the Trump regime.

Of course, we won't find them flipping burgers at McDonald's anywhere, will we? Probably not.

This is the first one I've heard connected to the Miami Mafia. That town has really become its own world, hasn't it?

The hard-right Cuban "exiles" have been catered to unlike every other group in this country. Opus Dei. Wow. Horrible.

After giving Acosta his "extreme vetting" Trump decided this guy is exactly what he wants. Unbelievable.

Politicians have courted the right-wing radical Cubans since they arrrived, and were immediately treated as exhaulted guests of honor on the spot, since they were all political prizes to use against the Cuban revolutionary government.

We know that their power over Florida politics and its slate of 25 or 29 electors is approaching the end, since Florida is gaining hispanic people from so many other countries, now, and many of them Democrats. It will be so enjoyable seeing their ship sinking.

Opus Dei seems to be a totally different matter. One has to wonder how many of these influential, hardened, obsessed, power mad bigots there are.
