(5,901 posts)Cuban-Americans never defeated him. Old Man Time gets everyone eventually, so the kids jumping around with Cuban flags and the people cheering and weeping seems, well, strange.

(2,035 posts)I feel bittersweet about it more or less the same way when Chavez died. In the end, Fidel got to live a long prosperous life. He ruled as a tyrant, lived as an oligarch, and died as a king, and never faced justice for all the crimes he committed against his own people. Guy died on his own terms, and never got to serve even one second behind bars, and even retired 10 years before he passed away and simply passed on the throne to his next of kin. To me, that means ultimately he was the victor.
