Evo Morales Urges Luis Almagro to Serve Latin America

Evo Morales Urges Luis Almagro to Serve Latin America

United Nations, Sep 22 (Prensa Latina) Bolivian President Evo Morales urged today here Luis Almagro, Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), to reflect deeply on serving the Latin American peoples.

'OAS is not an organization of the United States. We do not want a spokesperson or a foreman at the service of the US Government', he said at the UN headquarters during a press conference.

Morales criticized that Almagro, former Foreign Minister of Uruguay, violates or becomes a spokesperson for the United States at OAS, from which attacks against left-wing governments with a policy independent of the United States have been launched for decades.

Almagro has been denounced for his stance against Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, a viewpoint that has been linked by some people to those in favor of overthrowing the constitutional president.

'With Insulza (Jose Miguel Insulza, OAS former Secretary General) we were better than with Almagro', said Morales.
