RIO DE JANEIRO (JTA) President Juan Orlando Hernandez of Honduras said his country has signed an agreement with Israel for cutting-edge technology to help his army fight organized crime.
Hernandez said the agreement, which will be submitted to the legislature for its approval, will be used to battle the highest levels of crime in the last 15 years.
Calling the pact pivotal to the growth of the Honduran nation, the president said it will allow the strengthening of our armed forces with capabilities we have probably never had.
The agreement was announced in light of the 52nd anniversary of the founding of the armys 2nd Airborne Infantry Battalion, the Spanish-language Iton Gadol news service reported Sunday.
