The Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) received the most devastating electoral blow in its history this June 5, in a democratic contest over the governorship of the states.
The party of president Enrique Peña Nieto lost 7 of 12 governorships in play and among them surrendered to the opposition four states it had governed in consecutive elections for 86 years; Durango, Quintan Roo, Veracruz, and Tamaulipas.
The PRI will cease to govern these last two states, the most important in the Gulf of Mexico and where a strong presence of organized crime has been reported for at least 10 years fighting over control of drug trafficking routes.

(160,598 posts)No doubt you remember that when Peña Nieto was campaigning for the Presidency, every one of our "news" sources always made a point of re-informing us that Peña Nieto was sooooo photogenic!
Could not believe there was so little that could be said about this crooked little dweeb that they had to pound away every time about what they claim is his "photogenic" appearance.
What an insult to the human race. Our "news" people really showed they don't intend to do their job now, or ever again with the way they handled his campaign news to US readers.
There is no doubt we've never heard even a fraction of what the gov't has really been doing regarding Mexico since stealing California, Arizona, Texas, New Mexico, etc.
What are the chances they are going to share this news with us?
Thanks for pointing this out.
