First Latin American Cosmonaut Arnaldo Tamayo Decorated in Bolivia

La Paz, May 31 (Prensa Latina) The first Cuban and Latin American cosmonaut, Arnaldo Tamayo was decorated today in Bolivia with the Aeronautical Merit on the Commendator degree, during a rally held at the Military Aviation College in the City of Santa Cruz.
Bolivian President Evo Morales and Vice President Alvaro Garcia Liniera participated in the ceremony for the 64th anniversary of that institution.

Leaders of the military college expressed their pride for having the hero of the Republic of Cuba and Major General these days here, for all his experience as a cosmonaut.

Tamayo went to space on September 18, 1980, almost 36 years ago, from Baikonur Cosmodrome, in the former Soviet Union, on board of the spaceship Soyuz 38.

The flight, together with Soviet Colonel Yuri Romanenko, was a historic event and marked an important step for the development of Cuban science.
