Evo Morales Ratifies Decision to Defend Natural Resources

La Paz, May 16 (Prensa Latina) Bolivian President Evo Morales described as historical the swearing-in ceremony of the new Secretary-General of the Defense Directorate for the Silala and Water Resources along Chilean border, René Ã''scar Martínez.

"After all these years, it is time to establish sovereignty over our natural resources", said President Morales during the ceremony carried out at the Government Palace.

According to the President, the decision to create this authority responds to the lack of progress in the dialogs with Chile about the conflict for the use of the Silala waters and other sources along the common border.

Last March 23rd, President Morales announced the decision of the assuming the defense of water springs. "Every day Chile takes illegal advantage of that natural resource without paying any compensation.
