Colombian Legislators Hand over Their Guns
Bogota, Apr 11 (Prensa Latina) The Congress of the Republic stated today that all the Colombian legislators handed over the guns they were carrying for self-defense.
The senators and representatives completed the devolution of all pistols,revolvers, large-bore shotguns and machine guns they had been allowed to carry by Parliament.
President of the National Congress, Luis Fernando Velasco, reported that at his personal request to the legislators, 300 guns of different caliber were recovered.
He said that from now on, the National Protection Unit and the Colombian Police will be in charge of the legislators' security.
Velasco said that other equipment for protection, including vests, were handed over to Police. The Congress has to devote itself to its work and not to other business, he explained.
