Venezuelans Reject Production Bill Proposed by Right-wing
Caracas, Feb 24 (Prensa Latina) The bill on National Production proposed by the Right-wing in Parliament tries to privatize key companies in the country, said Deputy today by the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) Francisco Torrealba.
According to Torrealba, the companies in danger are Compania Anonima Nacional Telefonos de Venezuela (Cantv), Siderurgica del Orinoco Alfredo Maneiro (Sidor) and Petroleos de Venezuela S.A. (Pdvsa).
The bill will put the expropriated land in the hands of their former owners, the large landowners, which would mean returning to the days of the estate, Torrealba added.
He pointed out while this reactionary drift continues, the National Assembly will lose legitimacy in the eyes of public opinion, because such initiatives undermine the achievements made by the socialist government during the past 17 years.
At the same time, Torrealba acknowledged that some state companies do not function properly, although he stated the commitment of the authorities to improve efficiency, fight corruption and increase the public sector's productivity.
