TEGUCIGALPA, Feb. 15 (Xinhua) -- Honduras registered more than 11,000 cases of people infected with the Zika virus, the country's health authorities said on Monday.

"All the infected people are being treated and controlled with laboratory testing," said Deputy Health Minister Francis Contreras in a press conference.

Last week, health authorities inspected 13,000 buildings in Tegucigalpa amid a fumigation and mosquito nest eradication campaign.

Health Minister Yolandi Batres said "Our interventions have been very effective. We need to follow up on them as, in certain areas, there are closed houses and empty lots full of garbage. We must also make return visits to ensure the recommended actions have been taken."
