By Miguel Fernandez Martinez
Havana, Feb 10 (Prensa Latina) The economic, commercial and financial blockade that the United States imposed against Cuba since February 1962, began its year number 55, with damages that reach more than USD 121 billion.
When on February 7, 1962, US President John F. Kennedy enacted the blockade against Cuba, was showed the true face of Washington's policy towards Cuba.
On February 7, 1962, a Cuban girl named Madelin was celebrating her 5th birthday with her family, exactly the same date when Kennedy enacted the Proclamation 3447, under the authority of Section 620(a) of the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961.
Today Madelin is a 59-year-old woman, is retired, is the mother of two and grandmother of two, and continues to suffer from one of the most cruel and inhumane measures applied against a country that persists in defending its right to life.
