Indigenous Among the Poorest in Mexico City

Indigenous Among the Poorest in Mexico City

Mexico, Jan 4 (Prensa Latina) The resident and migrant indigenous in the rural areas of the Mexican capital are often among the poorest, stated Rosa Icela Rodriguez, head of the Ministry of Rural Development and Equity for Communities.

She pointed out the need to reverse the rates of marginalization, extreme poverty, school dropout and malnutrition in the rural area of the Federal District (DF).

In an interview published today by the newspaper La Jornada, she informed that the Head of Government of the Federal District Miguel Angel Mancera gave her the task of addressing the scourge of food shortages in such rural areas.

Rodriguez noted that to this end, she proposed among other things, the installation of 10 canteens in rural areas of high marginalization, as a pilot program.
