Guatemalan Opposition Party Lider Leads Electoral Polls
Guatemala, Aug 12 (Prensa Latina) Surveys have revealed that the Guatemalan opposition party Lider keeps heading the opinion polls, while it has been banned from conducting propaganda and vice-presidential candidate Édgar Barquín is being targeted by Justice.
Four surveys conducted over the last days, showing different numbers and percentages, place the Libertad Democrática Renovada (Lider) party as leaders of the opinion polls, sympathizer journal La Nacion reported today.
The journal quotes a survey conducted by the National Institute for Social Research, which said presidential candidate Manuel Baldizón ranks first with 47.2 percent of peopleâ�Ös support.
According to the survey, President Álvaro Colomâ�Ös former wife Sandra Torres, from the Unidad Nacional de la Esperanza party, ranks 2nd with 17.3 percent of the votes, followed by the candidate of the Frente de Convergencia Nacional party Jimmy Morales, with 16.2 percent.
