Ecuador's Correa Calls For Defence of Democracy Against Threat

Ecuador's Correa Calls For Defence of Democracy Against Threat
Published 20 June 2015 (3 hours 22 minutes ago)

During his weekly televised address, Ecuadorean President Rafael Correa called on Ecuadoreans to defend the democratic process, after more than 10 days of anti-government protests in Quito.

The president of Ecuador, Rafael Correa, reiterated Saturday that there is a plan underway to overthrow the elected government, and called on his supporters to defend the achievements of the Citizen’s Revolution against the destabilizing attempts of the right.

“Be aware, there is a coup underway. Be aware, because I insist, we are the immense peaceful majority, but we are going to defend our revolution and the moment they want to touch the president of the national government: everyone to the street, to defend what we have achieved,” he said.

. . .

Furthermore, Correa said that the right were attempting to achieve through destabilizing actions what they could not in the ballot box and that the opposition was afraid.

(A lot of that's going around, isn't it? The right has been doing it in its own way in our country every time we've had a Democratic President for decades and decades. A-holes!)
