Venezuela Rejects Claims That Brazilian Senators Were Harrassed

Venezuela Rejects Claims That Brazilian Senators Were Harrassed
Published 19 June 2015 (49 minutes ago)

A delegation of Brazilian senators landed in Venezuela in order to visit the jailed leader of the country’s hard-line, right-wing opposition.

The Venezuelan government criticized Friday the right-wing opposition for spreading the false rumor that Brazilian senators were prevented from meeting the country's opposition in purpose, when they were only victims of traffic.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a communique saying that the few hours they spent on the road between the airport and Caracas, the capital, was merely due to the “eruption of a big truck loaded with inflammable substances.”

The ministry also denied that the “security and physical integrity” of senators had been compromised, stating there was “audiovisual and photographic proof.” Furthermore, it dismissed claims that the government impeded the Brazilian senators' plane coming from landing in Venezuela.
