Venezuelans have enthusiastically embraced the campaign calling on Obama to repeal the decree that declared Venezuela a threat to the U.S. Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced Tuesday that the campaign calling for U.S. President Barack Obama to repeal his executive order that arbitrarily declares Venezuela an extraordinary threat to its national security had reached over 9 million signatures.
The latest total brings the number of signatures very close to the goal of 10 million signatures. President Maduro intends to deliver the signatures to U.S. President Barack Obama this week at the Summit of the Americas in Panama.
In the decisive moment, when we are threatened by the empire, the goal of 10 million willing signatories emerges, and I am sure that in the next few hours we are going to surpass the (goal of) 10 million men and women united in their defense of the homeland, Maduro said during his weekly television program.
The Venezuelan head of state added that the campaign has generated an energy, a spirit of unity, confidence, and optimism for the future ... every signature is an expression of the desire for peace and sovereignty.
