Venezuela’s embassy rebuffs the Indie’s baseless pro-opposition propaganda

THE Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland expresses to the newspaper The Independent its dissatisfaction at the content of the article entitled “Dissent in Venezuela: Maduro regime looks on borrowed time as rising public anger meets political repression.”

The embassy considers that said article contains a number of inaccuracies and biased statements that need to be cleared up.

The argument that Miranda state Governor Henrique Capriles, was the winner of the presidential elections of April 2013, and that he “conceded” victory in order to avoid a “civil war” is completely false. What is most serious in this article is not that the opinions of Mr Capriles (right) are presented with an air of veracity, rather that in certain paragraphs it is the publication itself that presents his assertions as being truths.

Capriles has been nothing but a bad loser, who without presenting one single bit of evidence claimed that the election had been fraudulent and called on his supporters to take to the streets in violent protests, resulting in the deaths of 11 people. Considering that The Independent presents Capriles as a political “moderate,” it seems appropriate to remember this painful episode, as well as the fact that in the days that followed the election, the opposition’s own electoral observers pronounced the electoral council’s results to be valid and as such Nicolas Maduro’s presidency.

Except that where Capriles and his supporters have been sabotaging the economy and social fabric, our Republicans have been content with just sabotaging the legislative process.

For now.
