New York Times: Enemy of Truth
The Times is Americas leading establishment publication. Its longstanding history is unprincipled.
Supporting wealth, power and privilege. At the expense of populist interests.
Functioning as a quasi-official propaganda ministry. Offering a daily diet of managed news misinformation rubbish. On issues mattering most.
No nation in world history committed more high crimes against humanity than America. The Times supports its worst policies.
Ignoring rule of law principles. Supporting might over right. When America goes to war or plans one, it marches in lockstep.
When sitting governments are opposed, it vilifies them supportively. Backing numerous ruthless regimes Washington supports. Including ones installed by rigged elections, coups or US wars.
Throughout his tenure, The Times vilified Hugo Chavez. After his 1998 election, its Latin American correspondent, Larry Roher, lied calling him a populist demagogue. (A)n authoritarian. (A) caudillo (strongman).
On April 13, 2002, a Times editorial headlined Hugo Chavez Departs, saying:
With yesterdays resignation of President Hugo Chavez, Venezuelan democracy is no longer threatened by a would-be dictator.
Mr. Chavez, a ruinous demagogue, stepped down after the military intervened and handed power to a respected business leader, Pedro Carmona.

(85,373 posts)and the columnists are getting more inane by the month. It's a shame to see a paper decline, but they all are. That's why I get news off the web.
Even DU has declined as an aggregator of news. I put much more hard news on in the daily Stock Market Watch and Weekend Economist threads than appears in the entire rest of the website. And Judi Lynn and hatrack are the forces behind two other groups of worth. Thank you both for your efforts, by the way.

(24,010 posts)Two major reasons:
1. Their 'star' war correspondent, Judith Miller and her damnable lies about WMDs in Iraq --and her palling around with Rumsfeld. Utterly disgusting!
2. Their abominable treatment of Hugo Chavez and the incredible leftist revolution in Latin America inspired by Chavez and by the people of Venezuela. Slander after slander. Lies upon lies. Utterly disgusting!
There are more reasons, of course, but these stick out in my mind. I just guffawed an their recent anti-torture editorial, after all they did to support the horrible crimes of Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld & Co.! They do publish Paul Krugman. He is definitely worth reading, but luckily I get some of his columns via syndication in a local paper, so I don't have to buy the Slimes (and wouldn't). Aside from that, the Slimes is...well, slime.
