Colombia's prosecutor general is investigating 128 federal and state agencies in Colombia alleged to have mismanaged millions of dollars in national funds.

Authorities discovered that the agencies had balance sheets loaded with irregularities, including unwarranted expenditures, falsified records and incorrect accounts, according to local media reports.

The evidence of malfeasance will be presented to the congressional Committee On Expenditures in the next few days, El Espectador newspaper reported. Prosecutor General Alejandro Ordóñez Maldonado said the investigation could result in disciplinary action against a number of public servants.

The agencies being investigated include the Central Military Hospital, the National Institute of Health, the Revolving Fund of the Navy, the Retirement Fund for the Armed Forces. Several other organizations are also being investigated, such as various public universities, a hydroelectric plant in Cauca, the Agricultural Development Trust Company and the National Institute for the Blind.
