Protest by Guatemalan Pedagogical Students Crushed

Guatemala, Jun 5 (Prensa Latina) A demonstration of students of Guatemalan pedagogical schools, rejecting a measure imposed by the Ministry of Education, was violently crushed on Tuesday by special police forces in this capital.

Tear gas shells were used against the protesters in famous El Incienso bridge, a usual suicide scene.

Following orders from Interior Minister Mauricio Lopez, the agents even used pepper gas against the students, who responded with sticks, stones and every object at hand.

At least 200 pedagogical students in the capital blocked the bridge, in a follow-up of actions started last month, when the educational authorities decreed a reform to their teaching studies.

"We will not allow groups to arbitrarily block the road; this is a warning: we will not permit this type of situations, said Lopez according to the journal.

1. Looks like the right-wing has gathered enough confidence in Guatemala to try to reseize the country.

The U.S., under Reagan, gave them all the support they could ever used, while they slaughtered, tortured, destroyed indigenous people in Guatemala, over 200,000 lives lost, in the end, not to mention their loved ones, crippled spiritually, haunted forever by what had happened to their loved ones.

So this is a clear sign the new right-wing regime is going right back in that deadly direction, lead by a genocidal maniac who slaughtered thousands already in the 1980's. Looks as if he's rested up, and eager to get out there to start murdering the grandchildren of his first murdered Guatemalans.

It will be important to keep watching this country from now on, until they get a human being back in the Presidency.

2. It's all too clear

He's trying to get US military assets to help fight the so-called drug war too. His whole posturing about legalizing the traffic was to pressure the US into sending troops, more equipment and more money.

Meanwhile more people are getting thrown off their lands as they get taken over by Mining Companies. This corporate announcement was just made today.

Notice their cute use of "100% owned".
