Wives of jailed Venezuelan opposition mayors win in polls

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-27573326

The wives of two jailed opposition mayors in Venezuela have won elections to replace them.

The two women, whose husbands were sentenced earlier this year over their failure to contain opposition protests, won by a landslide.

---------------------

Landslide

Patricia Gutierrez won 73% of the vote in the western city of San Cristobal, while Rosa Brandonisio won in the central city of San Diego with 88%.

Their husbands, Daniel Ceballos and Vicencio Scarano, were sentenced to 12 and 10 months in prison respectively for their refusal to remove street barricades set up by protesters.

You also seem to be very unwilling to comment on the most recent pieces of news that don't reflect well on the regime such as airlines leaving and the government saying it's the World Cup that's making them deviate the flights to Brazil (wonder why that's not happening in other LatAm countries) or the fact that poverty increased overall in 2013, before the protests even started. The regime arrested both mayors on grounds of whatever bullshit they could pay the Supreme Court to come up with to jail them, and the people of the cities those mayors were serving in decided to give a giant "Fuck You" to the regime by electing their wives with an even greater turnout than in December. I'm convinced at this point that whatever you say about Venezuela you're only pulling it out of your ass.

3. Turns out, an arrest for setting up an illegal road block is a political asset.

Chris Christie's wife could do well there.

4. Oh, all of this according to the regime?

Yeah, no, nobody's buying that bullshit. The TSJ is bought off by the PSUV and serves what best interests that party, which includes arresting opposition mayors for whatever BS they can come up with.

You still haven't responded yet for the other points I brought up. You can at least have the decency to respond for them in their respective threads.

5. Tell us what it is that I said (in this thread) that you disagree with?

I mean, it was you who agreed with my sole premise with this ...

... and the people of the cities those mayors were serving in decided to give a giant "Fuck You" to the regime by electing their wives with an even greater turnout than in December.

... yes?

I was responding to the OP with an accurate observation. (Not sure what your diatribe on decency is about.)

I stick mostly to discussions relating to Cuba, here in the LatAm forum.

Happy Memorial Day.

6. Sorry to tell you this, son...

But pretty much anywhere in the world, having yourself or your spouse arrested is always a political asset when the arrest is completely unjustified or the charges are completely made up by the regime perpetrating said arrest, such as the case of Scarano and Ceballos. It's completely logical then that people would vote for their wives, because their husbands were arrested for complete bullshit accusations created by the regime that nobody believes, not because they support criminals, which Scarano and Ceballos are not, and are in fact political prisoners of the dimwit president.

If politicians get arrested, their supporters will vote for their spouses if they run for office.

See? No reason to get all up in my grille.
