En el segundo semestre de 2012, un total de 1.483.264 hogares se encontraban en situación de pobreza, mientras que para el mismo período de 2013 esta cifra había aumentado a 1.899.590, según la metodología de medición de la pobreza basada en el nivel de ingresos de cada hogar.
La escalada que tuvieron los precios durante el año pasado, que llevó al país a sufrir una inflación de 56%, golpeó el presupuesto familiar e hizo que muchos hogares no contaran con ingresos suficientes para atender sus necesidades básicas, por lo que pasaron a engrosar las filas de la pobreza.

Overall, 1.48 million households lived in poverty in the second half of 2012. One year later, the figure totaled 1.89 million, based on the average household income.
The rise in poverty takes place after Venezuela's inflation hit 56% in 2013, which eroded households' income, pushing them into poverty.
