Hundreds in Mexico protest telecommunications reform they say will allow for censorship
By The Associated Press April 22, 2014 8:40 PM

MEXICO CITY - Hundreds of students and activists are marching to protest a telecommunications law being debated in Mexico's Senate that they say will allow the government to arbitrarily censor Internet content.

Protesters carrying signs that read "No to Censorship" and "Freedom of Expression" walked Tuesday down Mexico City's main Reforma Avenue on their way to the Senate building.

The government says it seeks tools to combat illegal activities on the Internet, including child pornography.

One of the most controversial articles in the law allows the government to request that internet providers "block access to certain content, applications or services."
