Venezuela proposes Maximilian Arvelaéz as ambassador to the US

http://www.eluniversal.com/nacional-y-politica/140225/venezuela-proposes-maximilian-arvelaez-as-ambassador-to-the-us

Venezuela has proposed Maximilian Arvelaéz as its new ambassador to the United States, according to a twit posted by the Venezuelan Foreign Affairs Ministry.

The proposal is yet to be considered by the US government in the hours ahead.

This is "a gesture of strong willingness to restore diplomatic relations on the basis of candid, sincere, and honest understanding," Venezuelan Foreign Minister Elías Jaua told multi-state television network Telesur.

to now propose an ambassador after that position having been vacant for years, and especially since he kicked out 3 US diplomatic personnel last week.

Maybe he's angling to buy that Miami Beach condo, in case he finds himself out of a job soon.

Does he think he can negotiate with the US to find a solution to the mess he and his administration created? Or is he simply that desperate to show a positive image that he's willing to re-establish relations with the one entity that he and the chavistas blame for their problems? Either way, I don't think it favors him on either side. Many maduristas will have a question mark on their heads thinking "What? But the imperialist US is our enemy! Why does he want to re-establish relations with them?," and well, one the other hand, you already have the 49% (or more) of those who voted against him who probably just want him to quit. Seems like a lose-lose situation to me. Then again, Maburro has never been the brightest color in the crayon box.

he wants to associate the US with the opposition for future blame games. The US won't deal in diplomatic formalities like appointments until Maduro shows that he is "maduro" and actually starts attending to the nation's problems just like President Obama said. That's the course of action the US will probably take. The US can't stop him from being an idiot and an asshole though. That's his burden.

Also, the US is going to step back and see what the other governments in the region do since they are so critical of the US. See how they respond to the situation.

Call me cynical but I think he wants the US involved just so he can say that the US is part or associated with the opposition.
