Peru, Chile To Meet Over Maritime Border Dispute

Peru, Chile To Meet Over Maritime Border Dispute

LIMA, Dec 26 (BERNAMA-NNN-ANDINA) -- The Peruvian government will meet with political parties on Friday to discuss an imminent decision by the International Court of Justice in The Hague ending Peru's maritime border dispute with Chile, the Foreign Ministry has confirmed.

Peru's Foreign Minister Eda Rivas had previously announced that the meeting would be held in the first week of January, but now says it will take place on Dec 27, Prensa Latina reported Monday.

The government has already met with top political leaders, regional governments in the south, and others such as the Catholic Episcopal Conference, trade unions and other social organisations and institutions.

According to the minister, the Friday meeting has the objective of consolidating an atmosphere of unity and mutual trust with Chile leading up to the court ruling, which is expected on Jan. 27.
