MEXICO CITY - Mexican authorities have arrested 13 federal police officers suspected of being members of a kidnap and murder gang that operated in the Pacific coast resort of Acapulco.
The officers were arrested along with four civilian men and a woman also suspected of killing some of the kidnap victims.
The bust announced Tuesday was among the largest single take-downs of corrupt police in recent years in Mexico.
Federal security spokesman Eduardo Sanchez would not say whether the officers arrested late last week wore their uniforms while committing the crimes.
The government has been struggling with rising levels of kidnapping and extortion, crimes many people still don't report because they don't trust police.
