Former Chilean Student Leader Camila Vallejo Gives Birth
Lea Katharina Wirz · October 7, 2013

SANTIAGO — The ex-leader of the student protests for education in 2011 gave birth to her daughter on Sunday October 6. The little girl measured 49 centimeters and weighed 3 kilo and 355 grams, reported the doctor of Vallejo, Rodolfo Guiñez.

He explained “Both, the mother and the newborn are in excellent conditions. Camila, as also her partner Julio Sarmiento, are very happy about the birth”. The hospital of the Universidad de Chile confirmed the birth of Vallejo’s daughter, 4 days after she was suffering a car accident.

Immediately after the birth, a photo of the couple Camila Vallejo, Julio Sarmiento, also ex-leader of student protests, now doctor and father of the baby, and their newborn circulated in social networks. The name of the little girl, who got to see the light of day at 10:16 a.m., local time on Saturday, October 5, isn’t public as yet.

This November 17, Camila Vallejo will be presented in the parliamentary elections for the party Pacto Nueva Mayoría, supporting Michelle Bachelet as presidential candidate. The former head of Universidad de Chile’s student federation will run in La Florida for the Communist Party.
