(166 posts)Venezuela is in turmoil. The economy is in shambles. The country is being "managed" by a former bus driver who has never steped into a university, but managed to steal the elections under the cover of a monumental election fraud.
The country's legendary leftist president Hugo Chávez died last year and appointed Nicolás Maduro as his successor.
Maduro has chosen a heavy handed policy against the opposition and the private sector. As a result, the economy is in shambles, despite Venezuela being a worldwide oil power. Maduro's policies are those of a blind showman with no clear understanding of world politics, a particularly dangerous inconvenience in the case of a major oil producer.
President Maduro's decisions are being taken on the run, as a reaction to real or perceived threats that seldom materialize, and are endangering the already tense relations with the U.S.
