Guatemala's ex-dictator leaves military hospital

GUATEMALA CITY (AP) — Former Guatemala dictator Efrain Rios Montt has left a military hospital where he was taken last month shortly after being put in prison to begin an 80-year sentence for genocide and crimes against humanity. His conviction was overturned a few days after he was hospitalized.

Defense lawyer Francisco Palomo says the retired army general was moved to house arrest Monday night to wait for his trial to resume.

Palomo says the 86-year-old Rios Montt is feeling but still needs medical care.

In overturning the former dictator's conviction, Guatemala's Constitutional Court ordered that his trial go back to where it stood on April 19 to solve several pending appeals.
