Ecuador makes strides in human development: UN report

QUITO, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Ecuador has evolved from a country of medium human development to one of high human development within seven years, according to an annual Human Development Index report of the United Nations.
Ecuador is one of the four countries that have improved their standings by rising 10 places in seven years, Ecuador's official Andes news agency reported on Tuesday.
The index measures three basic aspects of life expectancy, education and income levels. Ecuador ranks 89th in the world.
In Ecuador, life expectancy increased from 74.9 years in 2006 to 76 years in 2012.
The average number of school years received by individuals over 25 years old went from 7.3 years in 2006 to 8 years in 2012 and the expected years of education received by minors rose from 11.4 years in 2006 to 13.7 years in 2012.
