Ángel Perozo, the secretary general of the Venezuelan Journalists Association (CNP) in the state of Carabobo, condemned impunity and called for the detention and prosecution of the people responsible for the attack

Both regional authorities in the state of Apure, southwestern Venezuela, and the central government must address immediately the attack against journalist José Ramón González, the secretary general of the Venezuelan Journalists' Association (CNP) in the state of Apure, and his family on Sunday, March 11. The request was made by Ángel Perozo, the secretary general of the Venezuelan Journalists' Association in the central state of Carabobo.

He said that González "has received death threats on several occasions... On early morning of Sunday, March 11 he was about to die following a vile attack against him and his wife and children, when his house was set on fire with them inside."

Perozo stated that journalists have been the target of violence in order to intimidate them and to promote self-censorship among those who defend freedom of expression in Venezuela.

He condemned impunity and called for the detention and prosecution of the people responsible for the attack.
