The secretary general of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, said Wednesday that he "respects" the decision of the National Electoral Council (CNE) of Venezuela to appoint Nicolas Maduro as president



Speaking to Radio Mitre Argentine media, Insulza lowered his original demand for a recount and called for calm following Monday's violence .

"We are respectful of the Venezuela laws and constitution", said the Secretary General of the OAS, "the Electoral Council made" the decision to name Maduro as the new head of state. "We would have liked more calm, but they made a decision and I respect that decision," she added.
