I simply have to redo this thread because someone posted a different version, lacking the important information, with the deliberate intention to mislead.

When the men were questioned by officers of the Haitian National Police, they said "that the money was intended for the campaign of opposition candidate Henrique Capriles".
The money was in suitcases and they were caught as the tried to board an unspecified plane to an unspecified destination. The three were arrested and taken into custody. Thank you Haiti. Keep them locked up for a while.

(160,623 posts)We've seen that stunt before here, haven't we? That's really sad, and makes you think someone is handing out other buckets of money to keep these clowns nailed to message boards specifically to misinform, and always mislead,
You have our total thanks for your quick response. This is actually a very LARGE story for the right reason.
Hope for sure they'll keep them in that slammer. That's the right place for them.
It would be tremendous if someone traces it back to the sponsor. Maybe they could let one out for coughing up the identity of the one who sent the money.

I'll keep an eye out for additional details. And you're so right. We've all seen this stunt before and it's why the
First Jacobson accuses them of not having free elections and tries to foist US friendly election observers like they did in Haiti to stop Lavalas, then the Haitians catch those rightwingers with all that cash for Capriles on the heels of the Juan Carlos Caldera scandal. Such Karma!
In the video Rodriguez also mentions a very recent incident of corruption in the Capriles campaign involving Juan Carlos Caldera, his very dirty campaign manager, that Capriles was forced to sack a few months ago.
Oh my. Bribery and extortion to boot. Monthly affair lol.
Mérida, 14th September 2012 (Venezuelanalysis.com)
A video has emerged of a top campaign aide of Venezuelan opposition candidate Henrique Capriles Radonski covertly accepting 40,000 bolivars (US $9,300) and offering to set up a meeting between Capriles and an unknown businessman.
The video has provoked accusations of bribery and corruption among Capriles Roundtable of Democratic Unity (MUD) coalition. Capriles immediately sacked the aide, Juan Carlos Caldera, who is a parliamentary deputy for Capriles First Justice (PJ) party and was the MUDs representative to Venezuelas National Electoral Council.
Secret Meeting
...
In the first section, Capriles aide Caldera is seen meeting with the intermediary of a client referred to as the boss, said to be a businessman outside of Venezuela, and accepts a closed envelope from the intermediary. We want it to be a monthly affair, adds Caldera.
In the second section, dated 12 June, the intermediary tells Caldera that the boss would like to meet with Capriles himself. Caldera says this would be possible to arrange, but only when Capriles is on tour outside the country, hinting that a meeting inside Venezuela would be too risky.
Caldera then accepts bundles of 100 bolivar banks notes from the boss and stuffs them into an envelope. Tell him (the boss) that things are going well, the job isnt done but were on the way to achieving it, he tells the intermediary.

Here's the video Capriles didn't want Venezuela to see
Theyll try to make up reasons and excuses, Gloria Torres, an avid Chavez supporter living in the Caracas slum of Petare, said of the Capriles camp. But in truth this is an ugly blow. They will not survive it.

because I have no real proof and the Venezuelan government isn't sharing all the details but how else to interpret how they caught those two US attaches contacting high level military officers to help them destabilize the country, Jacobson's insulting speech and trying to foist the OAS election observers on them, and now this?
And I know there's a lot more going on. We lied all the way to the UN and went all the way to Iraq for large reserves that take 4 days to get here. Venezuela has the largest proved reserves ever and they're only 4 hours away. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know we're not going to sit back quietly.

(35,568 posts)cutting off the water, electricity and going in there to threaten the staff demonstrated that. And since it's Catholics week, let's throw that in because he's a militant in the extreme catholic right wing sect Tradition, Family and Property (TFP)
His family is one of those old powerful families who head several industrial, real estate and media conglomerates to include the paper Ultimas Noticias newspaper, which has a huge spread despite the lack of freedom of the press his rightwing keeps screeching about.
His father finances a ton of rightwing candidates and was involved in that JP Caldera scandal.
The party he founded in 2000, Primero Justicia, is extreme right wing and got their financing from the NED's International Republican Insititute, and guess which was the only party that officially recognized the 2000 coup?
Why this man isn't in jail is beyond me. Oh that's right, the public prosecutor who was handling his mysteriously died in a very conveniently timed car bombing.

That little incident probably ensured he would not win. But it is too bad that anyone at all was fooled by his pretense of being something he clearly is not.
