Chavez backers, protesters clash in Venezuela

http://www.boston.com/news/education/2013/03/21/chavez-backers-protesters-clash-venezuela/HC9fM8uBWuaO3oQa2KVPKM/story.html

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) — Student protesters marching to protest Venezuela’s electoral commission and government clashed with supporters of the late President Hugo Chavez on Thursday.

Both sides threw bottles and rocks and scuffles broke out. It was unclear how many people had been injured, but a student leader said at least 10 people from his side had been hurt.

About 300 students were marching through central Caracas when they encountered about 100 Chavez supporters, who began hurling rocks and bottles. The students returned the volley of objects, and fistfights broke out.

----------------------
The students were asking that the commission eliminate requirements that voters have their fingerprints recorded before voting. They were also demanding the government not interfere in politics ahead of an April 14 vote to replace Chavez.

(CARACAS, Venezuela — Supporters of the late President Hugo Chavez hurled rocks and bottles Thursday in an attack on student protesters who were marching against perceived bias by Venezuela’s electoral council.

At least 10 students were reported injured in the violence that raised tensions in a country already sharply divided ahead of next month’s presidential election.

Hundreds of students had gathered at a central plaza in the morning and were making their way to the electoral council headquarters in downtown Caracas when they came upon a police barricade.

About 100 Chavez supporters had gathered behind the barricade in the middle of broad Avenida Universidad and began throwing rocks and bottles at the approaching students. A few students lobbed the objects back, setting off a fierce volley between the two sides. At one point, several Chavez supporters pulled a student to the ground and repeatedly kicked him.

National police fired tear gas and scattered most of the students, but some 100 remained behind, left vulnerable to splinter groups of Chavez supporters who attacked from side streets. Police shooting plastic bullets ultimately repelled the attackers.

Colectivos are violent criminal organizations like paramilitaries who are chavistas.

Of course you'll say it's all a lie but those who have been watching the US government's MO for it's color revolutions have no trouble recognizing what's going on here.

One onlooker, Gustavo Malave, a 78-year-old who works for one of the socialist "community councils" set up during Chavez's 14-year rule, blamed the students for starting the trouble.

"The clash began because the opposition started throwing stones," he said. "I support Chavez and Maduro. Chavez set this course, and it's going to continue for 40 or 50 years."

Before the clash, the students had been marching to the election headquarters singing the national anthem and carrying signs including "Free and fair elections" and "Nicolas is a liar."

...

He said the group had links to two U.S. diplomats expelled on the day of Chavez's death on charges they were attempting to conspire with the Venezuelan military.

"I want you to know that those two men directly gave orders and instructions and money to this same group," he said.

5. The poor innocent lambs

Students of the Universidad de Los Andes, and the Catholic University in Táchira State, both well known hotbeds for extreme right wing militancy, smashed windows and played out running battles with security forces in acts which have been denounced by Bolivarian spokespersons.

Recently elected PSUV Governor, Jose Gregorio Vilma Mora, denounced the violence, and highlighted the role of international right wing groups in the destructive acts.

...

The youths vandalized various private institutions which work alongside the local government, such as the Foundation for the Family of Táchira and the Táchira Institute for Women, as well as inflicting infrastructural damage to various buildings, and the attempted burning of an ambulance.

...

In the violence in Táchira six members of the National Guard were injured. The National Guard denounced that the youths were loading their mortars with nails and other such instruments.

...

Many in the opposition ranks, overexcited by the improbable prospect of the failure of the health of President Chavez, incorrectly see their opportunity to finally topple the revolutionary forces, and with this end in sight are attempting to create the social conditions which would justify, both nationally and internationally, an intervention sufficiently forceful to undo the democratic results of October and December.

Rinse, lather, repeat. When the US finds something that works, they sure stick to it.

that shows how much stock to place in your article. The poor National Guard and chavistas being taunted into shooting protesters. I feel so bad for them. I feel so bad for the chavistas who killed the student.

Only on this subforum. No other subforum would go this low.

Despicable.

Remember, "provoking violence politically," was part of the chavista platform. This shit is par for the course.
