Fact Checker

Is Hillary Clinton really ahead of Bernie Sanders by 2.5 million votes?

Update: Unofficial results indicate that Sanders reduced the vote margin by about 130,000 votes with his victory in Wisconsin.

The Pinocchio Test

Despite the suspicions of the Sanders supporter, the fact that caucus results are not included in the popular vote tally does not appear to make much of a difference in the final result. Despite overwhelming victories in caucus states such as Washington and Maine, Sanders gains only about 130,000 votes. That means Clinton is ahead by 2.4 million votes, rather than 2.5 million votes. Given rounding — and the fact that caucus numbers are only estimates — the difference is slight enough that Clinton’s claim, made before the Wisconsin vote, earns a rare Geppetto Checkmark.

3. Sanders is third, does not look like he can beat Trump by these figures. Trump is ahead in votes

4. Yep. Makes you wonder how polls are coming up with "Bernie can beat all Republicans better

than Hillary" meme. I don't see it in the numbers.

They assume all Clinton supporters will vote for Bernie. Their cognitive dissonance is astounding. (Of course, since most Clinton supporters actually care about other than themselves, they most likely will vote against the Republicans if they cannot vote for their candidate of choice. Because we care about reproductive health care, immigrants, black lives, people with disabilities, seniors and all the other groups of people whom the Republicans will throw overboard. )

Sanders has gotten so many Pinnochios lately I'm started to think he promised one to each of his donors and is ramping up production to meet demand. Then I remember that Bernie "Bread Lines Can Be Good" Sanders doesn't understand economics enough to make that kind of adjustment.
