Hillary Clinton
Related: About this forumIgnore function. DU is a whole new world.
Well, I have been on DU for nearly 11 years. I finally broke down and used the ignore function. I have always believed that the ignore function closes off thought and discussion, even if you disagree with it, and so I avoided using it.
But, it is so toxic on DU right now, with people spending their day twisting, distorting, creating from whole cloth anything and everything negative against Clinton they can find. I found myself defending Clinton only to be attacked by a swarm--and the attacks always got personal. So, I have used the ignore function for the first time.
And today, it is actually pleasant on DU!
Happy Tuesday.

(9,070 posts)I agree, the attacks quickly get personal if you post anything pro-Hillary or anti-Bernie.
So far, I've stuck it out. Getting close after this last weekend. 80% of the bashing and personal comments are 2 or 3 people.

(3,709 posts)Mine are adding up for the same reason. Not only was I attacked but they're following me around taking snipes. I suppose they think they are being clever, however, they are behaving like a group of petulant junior high school kids. I find them annoying and hilarious at the same time.
I'll be glad when this primary is over.....

(9,148 posts)GD Thread.
Hillary was being blamed for the public's confusion on TPP.
Her spokepeople stated the the public was confused on TPP and of course that absolute truth became a big insult to the superior intellect of the responders.
I argued that it was whining since their statement is the truth.
TPP is confusing. FACT.
So I was warned that I was being targeted for my response to that post in GD.
Go figure.
So do they have a 'DU Hit List' now.
Wtf..
I think I would like an answer from the Admins on this threat.
Kinda creepy..

(9,148 posts)Yes trash thread & ignore are necessary, but I want to know what this Hit List threat is about.
They can disrupt any Hillary post we start in an open forum, with name calling insults, links to RW rags, comments that belong on gop dot com, but if we argue in their Hillary hate threads, we are "Being targeted" wtf.

DU Hillary supporters aren't interested in most issues and shun complexities. They're the people that are happy with a pat on the head and being told this is too complicated for you. Perhaps it is. They're the people that think that liberalism is constituted solely of social issues. It is not. They're the people that are personality driven or even gender driven rather than issue driven.
This has to be the most delusional group of people I have ever dealt with.... I find this remark one of the most disturbing that I've ever heard made by a Democrat regarding other Democrats. I told the Saunders supporters I tangled with that I feel their candidate deserves better than the manner in which they are representing him. I firmly believe he would not condone such idiotic rhetoric.
Childish behavior.
Despicable.

(42,371 posts)I've been on this board 13 years and had only used it a handful of times until now.
I like a good debate - it's one of the best things about DU. But all of this CDS (or is it HDS) on top of nearly 8 years of ODS is just too much for me.
Have an issue with a policy position of Hillary's and want to discuss it? Fine. But stating that "Hillary is a corporatist" "DLC" "Turd Way" "Reagan Republican" "warmonger", lather, rinse, repeat, is not discussing policy, no matter how hard the haters claim it is.
Ignore does make things more peaceful in my corner of DU.

(53,661 posts)RNC started this meme, it also appeared here. It's playing both sides against the middle. Or in this case, reinforcing notions that have a smidgen of truth but are wrapped in Limbaughisms. It's been out there for over a generation.
The latest one is being put out specifically, from the party of billionaires lwho want all the wealth for themselves, to appeal to the 'common man' or 'poor man' meme for Democrats:
http://www.motherjones.com/kevin-drum/2015/04/hillary-clinton-gop-populist-attacks-jonathan-chait
It fits seamlessly into the old and recent anti-HRC memes. It's not like the Koch brothers, etc. are dumb. Or even if they are, they still have enough money to buy the smart talkers for their goals. It is RF 2.01 and effective.
Many who joined the Tea Party weren't any different than those screaming 'banksters' on the 'left.' They did want a change from the money in politics. But they can't see it when it's close up and that's a huge blind spot.
Look to the end result of what people are yelling about will bring and they don't know what it is, they just want it yesterday. And then the RWers win.

I enjoy reading thoughtful posts about any candidate - those I support and ones I need to learn more about. But after a while it becomes clear that some account holders on DU are here only to disrupt discussion.
There's so much work to do to get any democratic candidate elected. The last thing that anyone needs to spend energy on is tearing others down. I urge people to discuss policy differences, but suggest they head over to Discussionist if disrupting is more their cup of tea.

I know that in 2008 I was on someone else's ignore list because of my support of Hillary.
Truth is, I just leave the discussion. Life is too short for these aggravations. But I admire many who are brave to continue the debate.

(6,409 posts)As a Sanders supporter, I must say some in my cohort are getting a little too intense. I mean, it's fine to criticize the opponent, but some people are cutting and pasting "hit pieces" that look like they came straight from the right wing media mill. I must complement the Clinton supporters for being, on the average, more civil than the Sanders supporters. In our defense, we have a few people who seem to be very, very intense, and some of them have posted things indicating they will not back down, all is fair in politics, it's a matter of principle, and so on. Maybe so, but some of them (us) appear to be intentionally provoking the Clinton people, and I think that's too much. I hope Sanders wins the nomination, but if Clinton wins, I hope there is some kind of cease-fire agreement.

(55,147 posts)If Hillary wins the nomination they will cease to post their tripe or they will be banned per TOS. I for one am looking forward to that day.

(31,849 posts)I've been here for a minute and have never felt the need to place anyone on ignore. About a month ago (maybe 2 or 3), I found myself caught up in a completely inane back and forth ... so I placed that person on ignore ... and just placing that one person on ignore cut my "Whoa, I gotta refute this B.S." quotient by 85+% (or some incredible number ... I did the math).
But alas, the Ignore failed after one day and I began seeing that DUer's posts again ... and I got dragged back into the abyss.

Oh well.

(92,366 posts)having a fit lately, proclaiming they won't vote for the Democratic nominee if it is Hillary.
I will not waste my time arguing with them why it is vital to support the Democratic nominee, if nothing else for at least the SC. They don't care. It is either their way or nothing, with a strong implication that anyone who supports Hillary is not a "real democrat".
What is hilarious is they profess that if Hillary gets the nomination, she will lose because they won't vote for her, but if the reverse occurs, do they really think they would win if their candidate won the primary, and the Hillary supporters refused to vote for that Democratic nominee in the general election?
What is even more ironic, or perhaps I should say moronic, is if Hillary wins the Democratic nomination I absolutely believe without hesitation that Bernie Sanders, and any other Democratic nominee would support and endorse Hillary in that case.
