NYDN released its transcript of the editorial meeting late last night, and boy is it a doozy. The worst parts are below, but those with the time to spare should really read the whole thing. Suffice it to say, it was more or less an hour-long exercise in the editors asking serious and well thought-out questions about policy, and Sanders revealing that he was in way, way over his head.
Right off the bat, when it came to the central message of Sanders campaign that Wall Street should be prosecuted for their role in the 2008 financial collapse he couldnt even say what laws they were supposed to have broken, saying he only suspected and believed they broke the law.
All in all, a simply pitiful performance from Sanders. Its hard to read the entire thing and not agree with former Obama advisor Dan Pfeiffers take: The transcript of Sanders meeting with the Daily News Ed Board is almost as damning as Trumps with the WaPo. But at least Trump was in hostile territory; Sanders was talking to a liberal tabloid.
Its possible Bernie just had an off-day, that he actually knows all the answers to those very basic questions he was asked. But it seems much more likely that the reason he couldnt answer those questions were because he lacks the seriousness and savvy one expects from a presidential candidate. Im sure if you asked Sanders himself what went wrong, hed give the same answer he gave for an hour straight: I dont know.

Thank you, SG~

(15,445 posts)improvised on the fly. I don't think they EVER expected to get this far.
Now they're just winging it, and hoping that nobody notices that the Bern is out of his depth.

(10,828 posts)St Bernard has always been thin on the details, the underlying 'how we get there' stuff. It's the difference between a wish list and an actual platform with the path forward mapped out in sensible, reasonable terms. Hillary Clinton is labeled as a 'policy wonk' with good reason. This interview lays bare the basic problem with St Bernard and his glorious promises; they rely on the magic and romance of REVOLUTION, purity of heart and a newt's eye thrown into the mix.
St Bernard can flail all he wants but this interview is on him and no one else. He was unprepared and unprofessional. Hillary Clinton never said he was unqualified. She didn't have to.

(30,058 posts)Away from the interview claiming Hillary is not qualified, WTH. He needs to listen to his interview and declare himself unqualified.

Spot on. And this interview just showcased his lack of substance on passing his fantasy. Almost like he's playing "Fantasy President".

His ineptitude and malice in the last couple of weeks, though, have soured me on him for good.

The Four Layers Of Gotcha Questions
But, regardless, the big point always remains that a new generation has awoken and is saying NO to the corporate right-wing neoliberal crap and warmongering -- supported by Obama, the Clintons (bill and hillary), the Bushes, etc., etc. -- that has done so much to destroy our country. They are saying NO and they are not going to stop. Every year, millions of old right-wing "Democrats" (e.g. Hillary supporters) die off, and are replaced with young people with progressive moral and political consciousness. This will go on for many years, and it will transform America. Long overdue.
Hillary-bots: truly, your days are numbered. Right now, right this moment, is your high-water mark; it is all downhill from here.
It is not about Bernie. It is about a sea change in the general tendency, a new refusal to go along with the depredations of corporate politicians. It will be very exciting and gratifying to watch. It already is!

There's a cult of personality that's come up around Sanders that blocks out reason and logic. It is a semi-permeable membrane, though, since his campaign's lies, fear and exclusionary tactics slip through the cone of protection.
It's not a movement. It's a creaky house built on the shifting sands of one man.
