Cuomo said the law will grow the states economy and improve New Yorkers lives.
At $9 an hour you cant afford to raise a family in New York and thats why were going to raise it to $15 an hour to restore fairness and decency, Cuomo said.

(4,640 posts)Now, what's kinda funny, in a sad way, is that the other side is claiming this was all Sanders' idea. This actually was pushed for by OBAMA.

Under the Sanders regime, Nebraska businesses are going to have to pay their workers $15 per hour because that's the amount of money you need to have a decent life if you live in The Bronx. It is, however, far more than you need for a decent life if you live in one of the many wide spots in the road you'll find in the Midwest...and it's more than the business owners who live in those wide spots can afford to spend on salaries.
One of the Bernie fans told me, "if you can't afford to pay your employees $15 per hour you shouldn't be allowed to be in business." Well, that's nice...you're going to tell a guy who pays $11 per hour to his workers but who can't afford to pay himself - and a LOT of small businesses are in this exact situation - that he can't be a businessman because he's not doing enough for his workers.

(4,640 posts)I know plenty of people, in fact I subcontract for one, who pays us before anything. He often goes a month without much of any kind of income at all from his business, and depending on other things, it often stretches, until he's so far behind personally, he finally HAS to take some money to keep afloat outside of work.
