http://www.politico.com/blogs/2016-dem-primary-live-updates-and-results/2016/03/hillary-clinton-bernie-sanders-tone-debate-221328I think what Joel was getting at a couple of things we had a process whereby we were talking about adding additional debates," senior Clinton adviser Karen Finney told CNN's "New Day" on Tuesday. "That seemed to be working just fine. And then we see this kind of stunt, as Brian Fallon pointed out yesterday, they send this public letter about lets you know, demanding a debate. At the same time, we see reports about how theyre doing polling on new lines of attack on Hillary Clinton."
"And so it just felt like hold on, here you dont get to set the terms and conditions around when or where we debate," Finney continued. "Weve had a process. Lets stick to that process rather than public stunts, particularly at a time when you had said at the beginning of this campaign, I dont do negative attacks. I think at one point Sen. Sanders also said, Im not really into polling. Well now its all about polling and how to attack Hillary Clinton? What kind of a campaign is that?
All these created tempests! The Sanders campaign should be very careful what it wishes for and how it proceeds in NY. NYers know and LIKE Hillary. NY is also a closed primary. These tactics can backfire.

(4,451 posts)We know Bernie has been spending his money. He has been attacking and attacking NASTY via PAID surrogates online and on the ground. PAID surrogates are part of the CAMPAIGN if the campaign is paying them.

Im all for that, but dont then say, set a standard at the beginning of the campaign and say one thing and then decide youre going to play it another way just because," Finney answered. "And by the way, I think this is an important point if we have a debate in New York, I can guarantee you Hillary Clinton would do very well. Not just because she does well at debates, but because this is a state that knows her well, knows that when she says shes gonna do something she gets it done.
Pressed on why the Clinton camp would not be moved about debating in New York, Finney reiterated that "the point is less about do we agree or disagree about should we debate in New York? and more about Lets talk about the tone of this campaign and again, lets talk about we had a process by which we were talking about debates.
Bernie's campaign is sounding and acting more and more like the campaign of any other politician. Whoodda thunk?

(24,396 posts)of RW assault.
There have been so many faux scandals put out there by the RW that have already had whatever effect they're going to have that any new claim against Hillary - especially something as minor and flimsy as saying she won't add a debate to the already agreed-upon schedule - will not change a single vote anywhere in the remaining state primaries. Hell, the whole email "scandal" is having no impact whatsoever on Hillary excelling in the popular vote, delegate count etc.
All this Bernie stunt does is reinforce the biases against Hillary already held by his zealous supporters. At this point, it's all about keeping the cash flowing in to pay Tad Devine's salary and the eventual second honeymoon in Russia. Outside of that, no one cares - have you seen how bad the viewership numbers have been for the D debates to date?

All I know is that in the debates, etc., that I watched, Hill cleaned Bernie's clock. I can't imagine that would change in any future debates.

(24,396 posts)The D debate in October drew 15-million viewers. Since then, viewership has been in the 8-10 million range.

(15,373 posts)Watching a train wreck in process is more interesting to most humans than listening to reasonable people who are discussing real issues of importance.
To me, those viewership figures suggest that most Dem viewers have already made up their minds between Hillary and Bernie, which may be yet another bad sign for Bernie.

(1,019 posts)...the same arguments that failed for Clinton 8 years ago. Maybe they were supposed to work this time around, because Bernie? Who knows what they're thinking. Or if they even are thinking. I know Tad Devine is probably only thinking about the next campaign check being cut to his consulting firm.
