Hillary Clinton
Related: About this forumLet's Put A Common Lie on Here to Rest -- Hillary Clinton IS A LIBERAL. Always has been.
The article previewed and linked below tackles a common lie told by many of Hillary's opponents on the left. It's one I've grown sick and tired of disputing. It occurred to me this morning to Google, "Is Hillary Clinton a liberal or conservative?" Queue surprise... She's among one of the most liberal people in government. Admittedly, she's not as far to the left as Senator Sanders, but in any rational examination of the facts, she's comes out as solidly liberal. That whole line that she is "Republican-Lite" is absolute rubbish that flies in the face of the facts. The NUMBERS and FACTs don't lie. I have found that people on the other hand will often distort or ignore facts to suit a biased agenda. So, let's put this bullshit about her not being a liberal/progressive to rest, because it's a bald-face lie that I'm certainly sick and tired of hearing. Enjoy the read...
Hillary Clinton Was Liberal. Hillary Clinton Is Liberal.
By HARRY ENTEN
A bunch of reporters have recently discovered a shocking truth: Hillary Clinton is liberal! (I heard a rumor that Columbo has been helping with the investigation.)
Weve gotten this raft of Clinton is liberal exposés as Clinton has revved up her 2016 campaign, speaking out in support of gay marriage, a pathway to citizenship for immigrants in the U.S. illegally, and criminal justice reform. But what many of these articles miss is that Clinton has always been, by most measures, pretty far to the left. When shes shifted positions, it has been in concert with the entire Democratic Party.
To see how these different issues fit together to form an overall political ideology, we usually use three metrics: one based on congressional voting record, one based on public statements and one based on fundraising.
Clinton was one of the most liberal members during her time in the Senate. According to an analysis of roll call votes by Voteview, Clintons record was more liberal than 70 percent of Democrats in her final term in the Senate. She was more liberal than 85 percent of all members. Her 2008 rival in the Democratic presidential primary, Barack Obama, was nearby with a record more liberal than 82 percent of all members he was not more liberal than Clinton.

(7,480 posts)I don't count the rabid close-minded opposition here as being rational or open to actual communication. The rabid ones -- NOT ALL -- aren't interested in talking or learning. To partially paraphrase Marilyn Manson, they're purists and they suffer from the same shortcomings of all purists: they cannot see the forest for the trees and they can't smell their own shit on their knees in their blind adoration.

(25,111 posts)I also realize that in a Democracy many times you must work with the opposition and sometimes extend the olive branch inorder to get things done and try and compromise or at last get to the middle of issues trying to swag and keep left of it, keeping the economy moving forward while keeping focus on helping Americans, i.e. inequality, healthcare, schools & colleges, civil and voting rights for all, et al.
The GOP party is the reverse of the above. They don't give a shit of America nor her people.
That said, that's why I'm a HRC supporter because she emulate my beliefs of what Democracy is and should be. And yes, she is a liberal/progressive.
