“creating a state of the art rail system which takes trucks off the road.”

Seems he said this recently although I can not find much (a few RW sites). My concern is that --this is another big promise he can not deliver on.

During a recent campaign event, presidential candidate Bernie Sanders shed some light on his plans for the trucking industry.

In the short clip, which can seen above, Sanders promised to “do great things” if elected president, including “creating a state of the art rail system which takes trucks off the road.”

The crowd at the event responded with thunderous applause.

The logistics alone of doing this (and it will only cover long haul truckers as local deliveries will still require trucks) boggle the mind. Here in western PA a mag lev was proposed decades ago. It never got off the ground (no pun intended). There weren't enough funds public or private to cover a local project.

The media needs to get going on critiquing his proposals.

He seems to be making all kinds of promises, yet how in the world is he going to pay for everything he promises when republicans will still be in control of the House, and will prevent any of his "ideas" from becoming reality!

It's easy to promise things, not so easy to actually do them.

Where I do support a state of the art rail industry, the blurb on his web site does not state how he will pay for it or pass it. (I supsect he will pay for it by taxing Wall Street, Bankers, the 1%, or some other group the mention of whom cause waling and gnashing teeth among Democrats) and (he will pass it by haveing his millions of young voters between 18 and 24 tweet the House and Senate and tell them feel the Bern.)

It also does not address the loss of jobs by professional truckers or the related jobs.

The rank and file of the Trucking industry are not excited about this.

You couldn't get high speed rail passed through a republican congress if you gave them all a pony lol (from another post.) Money falling from the sky, I'll stand outside with a tarp to catch as much as I can.

It doesn't have a chance outside blue states, and even in blue states it is a tough fight due to huge costs.

You can only "tax the rich" so many times until they say "fuck this shit" and move to a country with a less regressive tax structure than Bernie wants, like Sweden.

from the ports and rails across this country. More rail would be nice but its barely even able to function now at a profit. Rails function bringing products from east to west and north to south, to distribution points (hubs). Most imported & exported goods arrived in shipping containers, designed to be readily placed aboard trains or trucks. He is proposal would cut out companies that deliver the goods, along with small trucking firms and ma & pa independents. How does he think goods move from the manufacturer to shipping points? Truckers are the linchpin's of commerce small & large in this country and in most countries around the globe.

Local stores have to rely on trucks to keep the shelves stocked.

What we need is greener trucks.
