10. The hostile environment prevented me from joining

I've spent the last few months reading but not joining because of the horrendous discrimination against HRC and her supporters at DU. As a newbie, I just want you all to know that there are probably a ton of other people just like me, too. I campaigned for her in '08 and watching this year devolve into RW behavior from fellow Dems made me question whether it would even be worth it. (In my humble opinion, they are doing him and the Party no favors.) I'm so glad I joined but am truly stunned by the partisan pro Bernie/anti HRC dynamics in what is supposed to be a Dem forum and am steering clear of the GDP for that reason. FWIW, I am also a huge Obama supporter and really like Bernie, too.

But HRC is my gal, all the way!

I'm expecting to get a hide in that thread, since I just posted a post where I directly call the OP a racist. I didn't post it as a reply to the OP - I don't want to give him more attention, but he is a racist, and so are those rec'ing the OP. In all my history at DU, I've only ever gotten one hide, and that was when I posted a feminist bingo card. Since one of the squares was being called the c-word, but it was spelled out, the sexists grabbed the chance and alerted. Just like the racists will do with my post in that thread, and maybe even this post.

But you know what, I am tired of moderating myself. There's been so much vitriol and racism and sexism on this board that even if they argue it's done by low-post GOP/non-Democratic trolls, it's still rec'ed by long-timers, just like you proved with your post that got hidden. If Skinner and EarlG doesn't start weeding out some of them - especially those who say they won't vote for the democratic nominee if it's not Sanders, this board will implode. It might as well be Discussionist.

The other day I risked a hide on purpose. I got it within 5 minutes. When the post I copied from was juried and allowed. 6 days later is still there with 165 likes and numerous supportive responses. After that I was juried for a benign post and it passed 6-1. Got an ugly e-mail, so now I know who my troll is. I promise I won't feed him after midnight and keep his diaper changed. That was the post that pushed me solidly to support HRC.

If Bernie looses, they have nothing but themselves to blame.
