Hillary Clinton
Related: About this forumMeaning and Substance
Some people seem to live their lives under a microscope. Hillary Clinton is one of them. Unlike those who flash in and out of the public lens, Hillary Clinton has endured constant scrutiny for decades. Nothing she does, nowhere she goes escapes intense scrutiny. Yet, somehow, her compensated words to rooms full of people (people, by the way, who have never claimed either benefit or harm from her words) are suspected of being fraught with scurrilous intent, never mind the rather glaring absence of evidence. The woman is incessantly on trial for the thoughts of others, held culpable for their insinuations and their innuendos and their assumptions.
Hillary Clinton has a remarkably public record. We are free to agree or disagree with her actions in any of the jobs she has held, any of the work she has done, any of the words she has written. But the demand that she take responsibility for the imaginations of her political enemies is calculated to humiliate her and insult the party of which she is a member, and some of us simply refuse to go along for that ride; our time and energies are better spent on matters of genuine meaning and real substance.

(4,542 posts)Today I was pondering the small bit of irony of some words I've kept close at hand for some time...
Hope is the thing with feathers -
That perches in the soul -
And sings the tune without the words -
And never stops - at all -
And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard -
And sore must be the storm -
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm -
Ive heard it in the chillest land -
And on the strangest Sea -
Yet - never - in Extremity,
It asked a crumb - of me.
