One boy attempts to invalidate my point completely. “In what world would that even be a legitimate response?” he questions me loudly and angrily in front of the whole class. Another guy in the back of the room yells, “Samira, just quit while you’re barely ahead!” The senior boys laugh approvingly and sneer. They usually shut down Mr. Back-of-the-Room, but today they cheer him on. After all, it looks as if he, too, is trying to take down the girl, to get me to stop arguing.

Bernie’s candidacy is no revolution. Every smart woman knows what it feels like to have a man yell at her when she says something smart. This is why I’m supporting Clinton, and there are many other girls like me who know exactly what she’s up against.

I do have odd hours being out here on Kauai.

I sleep while the rest of you are having your morning tea or coffee, or espresso.

If I can get four hours a night, that constitutes a full night's sleep for me!

Sometimes I sleep 8 hrs.. then 4, 5, 6, or 10.. I just never know. I stay up so long because I've been getting up late.

I also take sleeping aids like melatonin sometimes.. so maybe I am an insomniac?

Nice to be retired though so I don't have a set schedule to adhere to.

You must get a lot done, BlueCali.. if you only need around 4 hours sleep!

soon! I do love to sleep, you?

every night. Most times it's just 2 or 3 (which bugs the heck out of me!). And it's not unusual for me to be baking chicken and cooking at 3 in the morning since I can't sleep and want to prepare lunch for my children. lol I've had insomnia since 2008. *sigh* A real pain.

And I do all my house cleaning during my cooking sprees - at 3 in the morning! So in that, I guess you can say I get a lot done although I leave the vacuuming for when everyone's gone to work. They hate it when I'm vacuuming that early. lol

Edited to add: I love sleep, too. I only wish I can do more of it.

get enough sleep I'm like a zombie.. and that's no fun.

So it's great that you can function without the regular 8 hours.

Have you considered any of the natural aids.. like valerian root or melatonin? I use the spray every other night.

... in school, work or elsewhere. It certainly isn't rare although some would like to pretend those days are over. It's like pretending racism is gone.

The kid who tells the writer to quit while she's barely ahead sounds like suggestions that have been made to Hillary right here in DU since New Hampshire.

and very gratifying to hear a young woman who understands what Madeleine Albright was saying and how it relates to Hillary. The tactics of the bernie bros is going to backfire and lead to a consciousness raising among their female peers.

Thanks for posting, radical noodle.

party loyalty, sanity and shouted me down in Phoenix and Tucson when I was back in the States for four months reupping my teacher certification before going back overseas.

However, I won't listen to their reasons she should get my vote in the primary. I am solidly behind Bernie.

Sorry, I've never seen one proven incident when a Hillary supporter shouted down a BS supporter.

That's not who we are.

Begins those who are not shouting normally close down what is said and only hear the shouting as in this case. Name calling and shouting are good signs those who engage in those tactics has lost in the discussion and will not get many to follow their point of view, an announcement "I have lost the discussion".

He has the responsibility of having the ears of a huge number of impressionable political newbies and does not take it. This is what, most of all, turns me against Bernie Sanders.
I also saw somewhere on the main "Home" board a headline saying Hillary Clinton is a fake feminist, or something like that. Makes me completely alarmed--this is so vile and so wrong, and helps no one, but Sanders or the GOP candidates, and does not help our goal of equality (Sanders gives social equality lip service, treats it as an afterthought he has jammed into his talking points, but not any serious consideration--so why would his devotees? ).

Excellent comments from a young woman who describes what many women, young and old, know to be true: intelligent women are frequently shouted down, dismissed and diminished. Yet when we raise our voices in defense, we are called shrill, PMS riddled, overly emotional. St Bernard and his Brigade ignore this fact at their own peril. Income inequality, though important, will not solve the raw sexism that still exists. Or address the multitude of problems and existing bigotry that Hillary clearly spoke to in the last debate. The one note that Saint Bernard sounds is for him the only one true sound.

He is badly mistaken.
