Congressional Black Caucus endores Hillary

(I hope this is not a duplicate post)

I just saw an interview on CNN with Rep. Hakeem Jeffries of New York who announced, or at least reinforced the endorsement of Hillary Clinton by the Congressional Black Caucus. He gave one of the most eloquent narratives in support and in defense of Hillary's continually work on behalf of the black community throughout her lifetime. They need to put him on a commercial.

When he was challenged with the statement that Bill Clinton was President when the legislation which resulted in many young black men going to jail, Hakeem countered with a devastating rebuttal saying that Bernie Sanders voted for that legislation in the House. (I didn't know that.)

This is perfect while Sanders is turning over every stone trying to find some black leaders to endorse him going into South Carolina and the other Southern primaries.

Hillary Clinton arrives for a meeting with Senate Democrats at the Capitol July 14, 2015. Congressional Black Caucus to formally endorse Clinton on Thursday

The Congressional Black Caucus is rushing to defend Hillary Clinton, following what many black lawmakers said was an expected loss in New Hampshire but one that should not hurt her in the next round of voting.

On Thursday morning, the CBC’s leaders said they will appear at a club adjacent to the Democratic National Committee to formally endorse Clinton for president, through the CBC political action committee. The group will then disperse its African-American lawmakers to states where black voters are crucial, particularly in South Carolina’s Democratic primary on Feb. 27.

“It’s one thing to endorse and do nothing. It’s another thing to endorse and to go to work,” said Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.), chairman of the CBC PAC. These lawmakers are, Meeks said, “people that can actually testify [to] the work that Hillary Clinton has done.”

Meeks said that 90 percent of the 20-member board of the CBC’s PAC voted to endorse Clinton, while none of the board members voted for Sen. Bernie Sanders and a few members abstained because they had not yet endorsed in the race.

On the neutral list was Rep. James E. Clyburn (S.C.), the No. 3 House Democratic leader and the most prominent South Carolina Democrat, who has since then said he is considering backing a candidate and that candidate, he suggested, is likely to be Clinton.

Instead, Clyburn said Tuesday, Clinton’s victory in Iowa, however narrow, held support for the former first lady, particularly among his state’s African-American voters. Even a big Sanders win in New Hampshire would not shift the dynamic in South Carolina, he argued.

“Whatever happens in New Hampshire,” Clyburn said in an interview Thursday, Clinton “got inoculated a bit. It won’t matter a whole lot.”

(snip)

Despite the youth vote, Clyburn said Clinton remains steady in South Carolina among voters most likely to show up for the primary. “There’s not been a big surge,” he said of the Vermont senator’s support. “The reliable primary voters that I know don’t seem to have shifted at all.”

Good news indeed!

They have totally different interests at heart and they know Hillary has the experience and the passion to see it through.

Awesome that the Black Caucus is endorsing Hillary now and Hopefully Rep James Clyburn will do so before the South Carolina Primary.

many Berners attacking other posters, I guess. Jason is clearly a Berner himself, but the comments coming from his contemporaries were getting pretty nasty, so I guess P-USA decided it was time to shut down the comments section. That's fine. It's a Bernie site so I don't go there anyway. Strange thing is, it's also a pro-Obama site - and President Obama is set to endorse (and secretly already has) Hillary Clinton, not the guy who wanted to primary him in 2012. Can we blame him?

I don't get the disconnect of him supporting the guy who wants to tear down PBO's legacy?

And, he's so knowledgeable in politics.. smart enough to know there's no way BS can get his promises of free stuff passed by our US Congress.

And, for sure he knows how bad some of his supporters are.. he has to close down his comment section for cripes sake.

He'll get on board Hillary's express pretty fast, though.

Following the planned meeting with the Democratic National Committee to officially hand Clinton their nod, Caucus leaders will send their troops out into states where the black vote is a make-or-break situation to make sure that they have as much support for their candidate as possible. They are intensely focused on South Carolina, where getting the black vote out will definitely be a boost for whichever candidate takes that state’s primary. From the Washington Post:

“It’s one thing to endorse and do nothing. It’s another thing to endorse and to go to work,” said Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.), chairman of the CBC PAC. These lawmakers are, Meeks said, “people that can actually testify [to] the work that Hillary Clinton has done.
