Hillary Clinton
Related: About this forumThere is an old saying, "Almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades"
The headlines might be variations of "Hillary wins a squeaker in Iowa", but that sure is different from "Insurgent campaign upends Democratic Race in Stunning Close Win Over Frontrunner Clinton!"
No wonder Bernie doesn't want to let go of the Iowa totals.
The shame is, again, Bernie has only a handful of states he truly can win, and Iowa was one of them. People can crow all they want about how he outperformed, but if he couldn't get a blowout in Iowa, well, the math says the end result is a foregone conclusion.
And he knows it, too. That is why there is no concession and demands for raw votes. Bernie is smart. He knows his campaign ended on Monday; now it is just a matter of time until the body stops twitching.

(28,270 posts)or even back the evil party candidate.
If Bernie couldn't even blow out Hillary in 95% or so white Iowa it shows what an incredibly weak national candidate he would be in the general.
He would be a bloody disaster and a sure guarantee of a republican landslide victory.
The democratic party needs to do everything in its power to stop Bernie and his bros from handing the government over to insane bastards like Cruz or Trump.
Stuckinthebush
(10,845 posts)and I think you are correct about his supporters - most will go Green or not vote.
The Democratic Party has Clinton's back on this. She is in great shape to win the nomination. She will also do very well in the General. You are also correct about the disaster that Sanders would be in a General.
But, it won't happen. Hillary has the numbers on her side. We just have to get through to SC without letting the silliness from GD-P get to us.

We minions of evil owe her that much at least. Mercy begets gratitude.

(30,058 posts)I knew the delegates would be split and this happened. The fact is Hillary won in Iowa, not hard to see what the facts are.

(1,968 posts)Clinton didn't concede until June of 2008, I don't expect Sanders to get out much earlier than June of 2016.
Is the handwriting on the wall? Well, not quite yet, there could be a severe slip in the Clinton campaign that dooms them. But so far, so very, very good for her.

(51 posts)is the only thing that gives Hillary a chance..... big money.... and Bernie can win... I have heard this lie before from party hacks... They said Paul Wellstone could never win in Minnesota and would ruin the Party.... of course He could and did with a Big Green School Bus and the willingness to talk to anyone even in the most republican areas... and he got some of their votes because he was honest...

(297,285 posts)carry us through.
Leaders like John Lewis and Sherrod Brown don't endorse her over sanders for no reason.
They know what they're talking about.

(36,926 posts)I guess some think Lewis and Brown must be owned by the big banks to endorse her LOL!

Unions, Dems, and POC went for Hillary.. not the other guy.
A majority of Democratic caucus-goers, 55 percent, said the next president should generally follow Barack Obamas policies, rather than pursue more liberal or less liberal approaches. And those who lined up with Obama were an especially strong group for Clinton, 68-26 percent vs. Sanders.
LOve it!
"Finally in the Democratic contest theres the question of race. Whites accounted for 91 percent of Democratic caucus-goers a lot, even if low by Iowa Democratic caucus standards. Whites also dominate in New Hampshire. But they accounted for 65 percent of voters across all Democratic primaries in 2008. And among the 9 percent of non-white Democratic caucus-goers in Iowa on Monday, Clinton won by a wide margin, 58-34 percent."
