Self-identified Democrats are for Clinton, while independents are backing Sanders.

No surprises. In spite of those self-identified "Independents" (at least some of whom were Republicans who became "independent" for the caucus in an attempt to derail Hillary), it looks as if she has eked out a "win," albeit by a hair. Bernie really needed a win here - not just a close finish.

As Sam Wang notes, at the link I provided, Bernie really needed to win in Iowa and not simply by a narrow margin, while Clinton could afford to lose Iowa outright. Sam is an excellent analyst, better than Nate Silver, IMO.

The NYT is also of that opinion: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/02/02/upshot/how-the-virtual-tie-in-iowa-helps-hillary-clinton.html?_r=0

But in the end, a virtual tie is an acceptable, if not ideal, result for Mrs. Clinton and an ominous one for Mr. Sanders. He failed to win a state tailor made to his strengths.

She's already won! Why isn't she called as the winner??

Cruz has 8 delegates to tRump's 7 - but he's called the winner.

Why the difference when it comes to Dems?

That Bernie won Iowa? The only reason I even had the nerve to venture in here was I saw a tweet from Hillary thanking Iowa from the bottom of her heart? What's going on? I'm so confused.

For months we had to hear from Bernie supporters on this site how he was going to blow her away in Iowa and New Hampshire. New Hampshire, maybe, but not in Iowa, and that's what I've predicted. Then he hits a firewall in the South where Bill Clinton is very loved, and so is his wife...it's also where Democrats are most diverse compared to either Iowa and New Hampshire.

It's looking good for our future Madam President!

You know that we can't win. Whenever things work out well for Hillary, it's the "Establishment" that is fighting against The Righteous, I'm afraid. It's never that she is in fact the best candidate and that people are very committed to voting for her..

But here are a couple more reports.

Democrats missing 1 precinct, with Clinton as victor http://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/elections/presidential/caucus/2016/02/02/some-democratic-precinct-results-unaccounted/79682184/
