Well-presented opinion piece: Bernie Sanders’ Views on Women Are Outdated and Sexist

Bernie Sanders’ Views on Women Are Outdated and Sexist
By James Simmons at WHW on

Our View

Jan 8, 2016

Hillary Clinton and the media have called out Donald Trump recently for his sexist and demeaning comments about Hillary. Trump’s outbursts have raised legitimate questions about how Bernie Sanders views women, and the results are disturbing. While Bernie Sanders is no Donald Trump, they do seem to share a common view that women should not be on the same playing field as men.

So how does Bernie view women? In looking at the official Sanders campaign chart at Bernie 2016 as of January 7, 2016, nine of the first ten names on the list are men. Indeed, out of the twenty-two persons listed on the campaign chart as working at headquarters, there are only five women. Not much had changed in Bernie’s view of women playing key roles in his campaign from last May when Politico ran an article entitled, The Power Players behind Bernie Sanders’ Campaign. At that time, there was one only woman listed among the 13 “key players” in the Sanders campaign. It would seem that Bernie Sanders does not feel that women belong at the top levels of his campaign staff.

To be fair to Bernie, he is from an age when men had difficulty looking at women as their political equals and old habits die hard. Of course, at 74 years of age, it is hard for Bernie to accept that times have changed.

MORE examples and details follow, including how his own campaign staff has had concerns....

***notice the rather delightful reference to how "it is hard for Bernie to accept that times have changed." Which made me think of his policies as well.....

Positions, some were very accepting and others not so much. We had more seniority but again we were not allowed to get the positions before. Women are hard workers, wants to do the very best because we are still trying to prove we are capable.

The bean counting, and the author's imagined slights that Hillary herself does not even seem to be bothered by.

Just stop.

I am a Hillary supporter, and I think this is a ridiculous line of argument.

It's no cheap shot if you've gone through things like many of us have gone through....
