The other day I'd had enough and swore I was leaving DU

I've changed my mind, I'm not going to let the belligerent, and repulsive Sander's supporters run me off. I decided that I want to be around when Sanders drops out and endorses our next President.

I am wondering how much change there will be at DU. The Hillary haters who have been here for a long time may find a way to tone it down just enough that they can stay and undermine HRC's campaign and this site. I'm not hopeful.

-- if your preferred candidate wins, that is. Personally I think if Sanders were to lose, I would be much too depressed to hang around DU and watch people rub salt in the wound. This place could very well become a ghost town if there are a lot of people like myself (and I'm sure there are). So you might not have much of an audience if you were planning to do some gloating.

I certainly wouldn't blame Clinton supporters from taking a break from DU if Sanders were to win, either.

But since there are a lot more Sanders supporters, it could get a bit lonesome around here for awhile if what you are hoping for comes to pass.

At any rate, it's good to not let anyone run you off the board.

Bernie supporters only have to stop their Hate Hillary threads for a few months so no biggie.

Since the majority of the hosts here are Sanders acolytes, and given that hosts can only shut down threads based on the first post in the thread, it will fall to the admins to do the bulk of the slashing and burning. I don't think they'll be too inclined to get overly involved in negotiations. They'll either ignore until it sorts itself out, or they'll just cut out the worst of the trolls and move forward, hoping the agitators operating under the radar take a hint and back off, or at least tone it down.

I think we'll see those "community standards" come under a bit of pressure in the immediate post-primary season.

We don't know if Skinner is going to have a seven day Gloat Fest or not, as outlined at that link:

At some point between now and the Democratic convention in August, one of the two remaining Democratic front-runners will drop out of the race, and the remaining candidate will become the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee. When we have a presumptive nominee, the time for fighting on DU will come to an end. The squabbling will not drag on until the "official" nomination at the convention in August. The transition to general election mode begins when we have a presumptive nominee. And we have no doubt that the vast majority of our members -- regardless of which candidate you support in the primaries -- will be glad to move forward and support the nominee.

We understand that not everyone will be prepared to immediately put the primaries behind us. There will be some jerks on the winning side who insist on gloating. And there will be some sore losers on the other side who will want to keep attacking the nominee. Once we have a presumptive nominee, those people will have one week to get it out of their systems. We believe that a one-week transitional period is more than fair for those of you who cannot switch gears easily or quickly. After this week-long adjustment period, we're done.

At that point, the moderators and admins will step in and shut down the primary infighting. The vast majority of people on this site will be glad to be done with the primaries. Sadly, a very small number of bitter partisans will not be able to let it go, and will likely be removed from this community. Few people will miss them when they are gone.

As usual, we will continue to permit constructive criticism of the Democratic nominee and of other Democratic candidates and officeholders. We will also continue to permit sincere, non-disruptive expressions of ambivalence toward the nominee. But we will not permit politically motivated attacks designed to tear down the Democratic presidential nominee.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I hope it addresses many of the questions that you have about the presidential election. If you have any questions, please feel free to post them in this thread and we will do our best to respond.

Thank you for your understanding, and thank you for being a part of our community.

The TOS says that primary season is over when we have two general election nominees. Now, that means, presumably, that Clinton could beat Sanders like a rented mule on Super Tuesday, and we have a de facto candidate before the first daffodils bloom in New England, but "technically" the contest isn't over until the GOP sorts out their clusterfuck:

...During the ups-and-downs of politics and policy-making, it is perfectly normal to have mixed feelings about the Democratic officials we worked hard to help elect. When we are not in the heat of election season, members are permitted to post strong criticism or disappointment with our Democratic elected officials, or to express ambivalence about voting for them. In Democratic primaries, members may support whomever they choose. But when general election season begins, DU members must support Democratic nominees (EXCEPT in rare cases where a non-Democrat is most likely to defeat the conservative alternative, or where there is no possibility of splitting the liberal vote and inadvertently throwing the election to the conservative alternative). For presidential contests, election season begins when both major-party nominees become clear. For non-presidential contests, election season begins on Labor Day. Everyone here on DU needs to work together to elect more Democrats and fewer Republicans to all levels of American government. If you are bashing, trashing, undermining, or depressing turnout for our candidates during election season, we'll assume you are rooting for the other side.

I think a lot of the people who left DU after the Sanders people got real ugly will come back. This is Democratic Underground.

REASON FOR ALERT

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.

ALERTER'S COMMENTS

Insulting to a wide swath of DUers and posted from a "protected group" where the OP believes they can bash and malign DUers without consequence of those being bashed being able to respond. It is an abuse of the protected group and the post in violation of the TOS.

You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Thu Dec 10, 2015, 07:40 AM, and the Jury voted 3-4 to LEAVE IT.

Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Some Sanders supporters are in fact, pretty vile. Some Clinton supporters are pretty vile too. That's not a surprise to anyone, is it?
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: This is a very contentions and high stakes election year, so passions run high. Maybe take a break and work for your candidate.
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Sort of a pathetic walk-back of a #FarewellCruelWorld exit, but nothing particularly insulting or personal here. I think it's ok to badmouth BS in the HRC group. Just as it's ok to badmouth HRC in the BS group. Not alert-worthy.
Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #5 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: What a nasty thing to say, tired of the divisive crap from both sides.
Juror #6 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given

Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

The notion of reaching into our protected "safe haven" - the only place on DU we have without the Hillary-hating ridiculous snark - to further censor us, to be one vote away - well, this makes me apoplectic.

I have nothing bad to say about Senator Sanders (I-VT) but the association in my mind of the BS supporters and the man himself - their relentless crusade to silence fair competition - just reminds me how effed up people are and the internet is.

They seek the ruin of this place.

With Obama, it took them about 6 months to figure out that he wasn't the black Ralph Nader. With Hillary, the guns will be loaded and ready to fire from the minute they swear her in.

The good news is that our candidate is winning and will win the nomination and the White House. The bad news is that Hillary Hatred probably get even deeper and more irrational.

As recently as a few weeks ago, I would let it bother me.... now with the 60/30 trend everywhere, I am relaxed. I find their desperate grasping at straws entertaining and humorous.

As pointed elsewhere, once HRC secures the nomination and the WH, the swords will be sheathed for awhile, and then down the road the backstabbing begins....
