Cummings: Unredacted Email Debunks Rehashed Conservative Conspiracy Theory

Dec 9, 2015 Press Release
WASHINGTON – Today, the Select Committee on Benghazi Ranking Member released an email in unredacted form that debunks recent rehashed allegations? from conservative news outlets about the Department of Defense's response on the night of the Benghazi attacks.

Conservative commentators have called the redacted email a “smoking gun” and claimed that it “seems to contradict testimony from former Defense Secretary Leon Panetta who in 2013 told lawmakers there was no time for an immediate response,” and that “[military assets] were awaiting sign off from the State Department and they never acted.”

However, the unredacted email confirms the previous testimony of Defense Department officials to Congress, supports the findings of previous Congressional Committees, and debunks these recent rehashed allegations.

The email in question is released in full here.

A Democratic Spokesman stated:

“This email is yet another example of how conservative conspiracy theorists use bits of information out of context to rehash baseless allegations that have been debunked time and again.”

about their reasons for having the committee, has wasted money playing their game. If Democrats had left the committee so many of these things would not have become available. Thanks to Cummings for his hard work.

rw sources or rwinger memes. Nothing is out of their scope of what's only smart in a Dem primary.

No one EVER accused them of being smart, though.

"...bits of information out of context to rehash baseless allegations that have been debunked time and again.”

This is all we ever hear from the Hillary Haters!

Considering where it originates and then filters into a Democratic leftist sourcing, can people understand why we get so incensed and irate at "our" own people spreading this vile bile filth?

Apoplectic is the best single word to describe the feeling!

Fox News Goes All In On The Benghazi Journalism Catastrophe
"Huge" "Smoking Gun" Story Was Never Credible, Has Been Debunked
26 minutes ago ››› MATT GERTZ

Fox News hosts have begun complaining that more credible media outlets are refusing to cover the latest embarrassingly false conservative Benghazi conspiracy and demanding that Hillary Clinton be called to account for it.

On Monday, conservative journalists credulously trumpeted the false claim that a newly-released Department of Defesnse email from the night of the attacks proved that the Obama administration could have helped the Americans under fire during the 2012 attacks in Benghazi, but deliberately decided not to, and that then-Defense Secretary Leon Panetta had lied about the effort during 2013 congressional testimony.

This was never remotely plausible: The email was consistent with Panetta's statement that they had deployed forces to aid the Americans under fire but that those forces could not reach the scene in time. And last night, the ranking member of the House Select Committee on Benghazi produced an unredacted version of the email that conclusively proved that the forces discussed in the email as "spinning up" to respond to the attack were the very units that Panetta has testified were deployed but did not arrive in time.

None of this has stopped Fox News from continuing to obsess over the "smoking gun" email this morning. According to hosts and guests on Fox & Friends, the "huge" email proves that "Leon Panetta and everybody else flat-out lied to us" and that "the only thing standing between the terrorists who overran the compound and the four Americans who lost their lives was a green light from the State Department." And of course, that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton "has a lot of explaining to do."

They have also been criticizing the rest of the media for not devoting sufficient time to the "Benghazi scandal," calling that purported failure "near-criminal" and airing this graphic:.....................
